Today's question comes from the lovely Xio Axelrod
"If you weren't a writer, what other creative career would you most like to try."
For me, this is a simple answer. A designer.
I studied fashion design in college, and graduated with a fashion design degree as well as a fashion merchandising and visual design degree. I worked in fashion in a multitude of positions for years, everything from retail to pattern drafting. I loved each thing I tried, and the industry in general, BUT, it's a lot of pressure, and time, and fighting for morsels of this and that... and when I became a single mother, shit got real and my dreams sort of nose dived.
*shrugs* It happens.
Working ten hour plus days on top of one hour commutes two and fro didn't really vibe with trying to take care of an infant. Ya know...
I still love to create, and I do from time to time. Do I sometimes want to clamber up a ladder in a department store and fix every effing mistake I see in a display? You bet. It's like an itch I can't reach. I still attend the student fashion show at both colleges I attended--FIDM in Los Angeles, and LBCC in Long Beach, and I think back with a smile, to a time when I had the world by the tits and the best sample sales designer jeans my young little booty could rock.
So there's my other dream job... how about you?
