Today's question is from the lovely A. S. Fenichel.
What is your favorite vacation spot
My very favorite spot is close to home. San Onofre is less than an hour away from me, and one of the prettiest places I've ever visited. There are these great bluffs where you can overlook the Pacific and there's nothing lovelier.
The campgrounds aren't fancy--in fact, their pretty primitive, but that's part of the fun for me. I love being able to let loose and live in my shorts and bare feet for days without worrying about washing my hair or getting dressed. It is what it is. Beer, campfires, surfing and the sound of the waves as I sleep is like my magic place.
When I was younger, we'd just drive down there with our sleeping bags, boards and as many beers as we could scavenge and sleep right on the sand. My best memories are those days.
A little further south is another spot I love, San Elijo State Beach. There's a little beach town called Encinitas right across the way, and it's the raddest spot ever. It's trapped in a time warp, this epic little California surf town. You're drawn into all kinds of kitsch and nostalgia, and you are so not allowed to have a care in the world there. Plus, my very favorite beach is in Encinitas--Moonlight Beach. It's so pretty, clean, and with the exception of the freaking crazy rip tides, it's a pretty prime spot to surf or body surf.
My best friend moved to Carlsbad when I was in high school, so I spent quiet a lot of time down south to visit him and his dad, and the best part was that his dad spoiled me like I was his own. Since he only had boys, I was his token daughter. No matter what, ever time I visited, we'd go to Encinitas and Moonlight beach to surf, so not only is it just an awesome place, it holds great memories, so it's totally one of my favorite places.
